The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) plays a crucial role in the life of the University. With responsibility for the administration of U of A’s graduate programs, the Faculty oversees student programs and supervisory committees for over 7,200 graduate students in every discipline. FGSR administers a number of prestigious graduate scholarship programs, and champions academic innovation. Key priorities include entrepreneurship, graduate student leadership, the development of a mentorship academy, interdisciplinary programs, internship placements, and graduate student mental health.

The inaugural Assistant Dean, Advancement will report jointly to the Dean of FGSR and the Senior Director, Faculty Development. The Assistant Dean will design and implement the fund-raising strategies of the Faculty, and work closely with key stakeholders, alumni and the wider professional community. The Assistant Dean will be a key member of the Faculty’s senior leadership team, and will work closely with both central advancement and the other Assistant Deans across the campus.

This is an opportunity for the Assistant Dean, Advancement to build excitement, capacity, and support for the graduate mission of one of Canada’s top research-intensive universities. The successful candidate brings a bias to action, with the demonstrated ability to envision, build, and execute a strategic and successful fundraising program. The candidate will work to develop a prospect pipeline, and will manage all cultivation and stewardship activities for the Faculty. Experience across all philanthropic channels, including planned giving and major gifts is required.
